National Forum of Civil Society Organizations “Together Against Violence”

On November 27, 2024, the National Forum of Civil Society Organizations and Gender Movement Activists “Together Against Violence” was held at the Hyatt Hotel in Dushanbe. The event, organized by the OSCE in partnership with the “Life Without Violence” network, brought together more than 80 participants, including representatives of the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, various state agencies, international and public organizations, and gender movement activists.

The main objective of the forum was to strengthen the role of civil society in implementing programs to prevent violence against women and girls. Participants discussed coordinated actions aimed at changing public opinion on the unacceptability of violence and expanding access to support for survivors. Special attention was given to sharing experiences and learning best practices from the region.

Shirin Rashidova from Uzbekistan, Director of the Development and Support Center for Initiatives “Nihol,” delivered a report highlighting her country’s initiatives to prevent violence against women and girls. The discussion explored the possibility of applying Uzbekistan’s successful practices in Tajikistan.

“Youth is a key factor in creating an inclusive society and promoting gender equality. They shape a future free from stereotypes,” noted Sarvinoz, OSCE gender activist.

“Women’s Resource Centers play a key role in supporting survivors of violence, providing them with essential assistance and services for recovery and protection,” emphasized Gulchehra Khassanova, Director of the “Kukhsor” Center.

“This forum is an important opportunity to unite the efforts of all stakeholders. Joint action and exchange of experiences will help develop effective solutions to combat violence and support women survivors,” stated Gulrukhsor Abdullaeva.

During the forum, two sessions were held: the first focused on gender activists’ initiatives for implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, and the second on planning work for the upcoming year based on civil society’s behavior change strategy regarding violence prevention issues.
