On December 4, the city of Bokhtar hosted youth debates focused on combating harmful social and gender norms. The event brought together more than 40 participants, including representatives of youth organizations, activists, and opinion leaders, who united to discuss pressing social issues.
The participants concentrated on key topics such as early marriages, social justice, equality, and gender stereotypes. During the debates, they explored how these issues restrict opportunities for young people and hinder the development of individuals and society as a whole. Special attention was given to women’s rights, gender discrimination, and harmful traditions that often impede progress.
A major point of discussion was the impact of social norms on everyday life. Participants emphasized the need for changes in upbringing and educational processes, as well as the development of policies aimed at promoting inclusivity and equality. The youth of Bokhtar expressed their commitment to actively advocating for the values of equality and social justice, contributing to positive changes within their communities and in society at large.
The event was organized by the NGO Gender and Development as part of a project implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with financial support from the UK government. It is important to note that the opinions expressed during project events and/or in project publications do not necessarily reflect the official views of the UK government or UNFPA.
